Dear David, It should be illegal to accept campaign contributions in any amount or in any other form: period, no exceptions. Comments on the issues should be stated in the Voters Pamphlet, town hall meetings and through a grant of yet to be determined amount funded by the State of Oregon. The grant could be used to pay for media coverage of the campaign... Then a candidate or other person commenting on a candidacy should be made responsible for the accuracy of the remarks and statements made about another candidate. If a candidate slanders another, the statement must be the truth or take the chance of facing legal action.
Jordan Cove is an excellent example of how influence money works! Coos County Commissioner accepted 50,000. dollars form the proponents of Jordan Cove, Caddy McGowan accepted 15,000. dollars and your campaign accepted 2,500. dollars, whole others State Legislatures received more or less. Spending influence money to buy an elections should be illegal. If you go back through your emails you will find one from me asking you to return the money to the proponents of Jordan Cove.
I did as you suggested and contacted the Secretary of States office and the Oregon Department of Revenue and asked them to audit the campaign finances of those candidates that received money from the proponents of Jordan Cove to see who was paid using the influence money paid to vendors of the candidates.. They were polite when they refused to do so.
Looking forward is Coos County Commissioner Sweet going to run for State Senator or State Representative now that he has a 50,000. War Chest? Will the proponents of Jordan Cove donate similar amounts to other candidates for Coos County Commissioner, State Representative or State Senator?
Just when does the use of influence money come to an end?

Hi Bill,
It is already illegal to personally benefit from campaign contributions. All transitions are available online for you to review.
If you believe campaign contributions have been used improperly, I encourage you to reach out to the Secretary of State’s office.
Warm Regards,
David
