When I called Jeff at Garibaldi Marina in Tillamook Bay for an update for crabbing and fishing productivity report, He expressed concern of his conservation with an Oyster grower who claimed that his harvest of ousters was shut down by the State because of a massive spill of cow manure by a local dairy. Jeff called several State Agencies to confirm the Oysterman's claim. Jeff finally spoke to a lower lever State Agency Representative who confirmed the Oysterman's account of the Manure Spill.
Well, It is Saturday and I researched the internet for details or news of the manure spill but found none. I will follow-up on this on Monday.
This is a familiar story of incompetence by Oregon State Agencies who had at one time agreed to create and maintain a Sewage Spill Hotline to warn visitors to Oregon State Waters that have been subjected to pollution spills from one source or another.
The State of Oregon has failed to protect the safety of recreational enthusiast who without the knowledge of contaminated State Waters harvest a multitude of aquatic species for consumption by family and friends. Bill

UPDATE! Facts; A Cow Poo spill occurred Last Wednesday from a dairy farm near the Netarts Highway. Approximately 100 thousand gallons of cow poo flowed into the Tillamook River contaminating the commercial oysters grown in the upper bay. The State closed the oyster harvest. I have a phone call in to ODFW's Shellfish Project Leader, Mich Vance to discuss the issues. On the face of it, I wonder why the State did not close the recreational harvest of clams until the threat had passed?
