My fellow clam diggers: Many of you are not aware of the regulations governing the transfer of wildlife. The transfer of clams and crabs is a common occurrence within the clam digging community. Many of you share your bounty with others and it only takes a few moments to fill out the FISH AND WILDLIFE TRANSFER RECORD; and you do not need a formal document to do so. Any piece of paper will do; but, you do however need to record all the required information. The attached form below is a modified version of the form located on page 19 in the ODFW SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS.
We are sharing this information with you because the regulation is confusing. Multiple limits of clams and crabs are often transported in the same Vehicle. ODFW makes no reference to the regulation in the part of the synopsis governing the taking of marine species; at least any reference that I was able to find.
I have emailed a copy of this notice to the ODFW to ensure our recommendation is in compliance with the regulations. It would be appropriate for the ODFW to comment on this email. As always good digging, Bill the Clamman.
TRANSFER OF FISH AND SHELLFISH TO ANOTHER PERSON
Fish and shellfish (whole or parts, including fish eggs) which have been taken for personal use and then given or shipped to another person must be accompanied by the following information or you may complete the Fish and Wildlife Transfer Record: 1: Kind and number of fish or shellfish. 2. Date caught. 3. Name, address, angling license or shellfish license number and Combined Harvest or Hatchery Harvest tag number (if applicable) of the person who caught them. 4 Information must also be provided to the wholesale fish or bait dealer when eggs from ocean-caught salmon are sold.
