Re: Wyden Bill to Improve Water Quality
Dear Senator Wyden, It will be a tragic mistake if your water bill does not include keystone species like beavers. The beaver state needs a natural organic system that cleans, cools and stores water. Beaver ponds supply much needed groundwater. These ponds also collect sediment and help clean our rivers and streams. Beaver ponds connect subsurface groundwater and return as springs and seeps cooled by the earth. These natural wetlands provide much needed fire breaks in our forest. There are over 30 peer review studies that show these kind of benefits. Before we spend all the money on building more dams please think about doing something that has less unintentional consequences on our environment. Beavers work for free if we give them a chance. Stop the trapping on federal lands. Protect the engineers our water systems. Oregon was once the great beaver state, isn't time for the organic solution to this man made problem? Clearly we have failed. Look at the decline of fisheries. Water in short supply or to warm from our dams. California gets 25% of their electric power from Oregon's dams. It is no surprise California has more wild salmon than Oregon has? Is selling off our fish to supply California with power worth killing off our fisheries? Bring back the beavers for the sake of water and life. Thank you, Chuck Erickson

the only sound a tree makes as it falls to the forest floor is coming from a Beaver or from a person standing under the tree. The point is south is one of the few PEOPLE who are listening...
