There has been little improvement in managing OUR clam and crab resources since the homesteaders arrived in their covered wagons. There is so much going on in our coastal waters that we are in danger of losing our rich abundance of invertebrates. Recreations crabbers and clam diggers pay the ODFW big bucks to manage our resources; and we receive little in return.
As long as I am sharing the Fish Commission reports with you, I may as well share a summary of my conversation with 2 ODFW shellfish biologists with you, “ODFW biologists claim the Pacific Gaper (Tresus nuttalli) was not common to Yaquina Bay because they had never seen one.” Yaquina Bay Clam Study 1947Shellfish Investigation Progress Report August 1949Observations Horseclams 1950PR201949-50 Observations Horseclams 1950 PR21
